Speaking Examiner Qualifications

CaMLA speaking tests are administered by well-qualified, carefully trained, and regularly monitored examiners. We look for examiners with the following qualifications:

English Proficiency

  • Native speaker of English; or
  • Nonnative speaker of English with a bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an English-medium institution; or
  • Nonnative speaker of English who has achieved:
    • an ECPE certificate; or
    • a MELAB score of at least 85 on each part with a speaking test score of 4; or
    • equivalent performance on another internationally recognized English language proficiency assessment


Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, linguistics, TESOL, foreign languages, or a related field.

Teaching & Assessment Experience

  • Substantial experience teaching ESL/EFL, generally a minimum of three years; or
  • EFL teaching qualification such as CELTA or MA TESOL; or
  • Minimum two years of experience in assessing spoken English language proficiency for an accredited organization/institution
