March 1, 2025, was a special day for Michigan Language Assessment and the hard-working community of Filipino nurses we’ve had the privilege to serve. It marked the first anniversary of the Michigan English Test (MET) in the Philippines. The past year has been filled with incredible milestones and achievements for MET in the Philippines. The anniversary event, held at 9.0 Niner English Review Center in Manila, brought together nurses, educators, and valued partners to reflect on the achievements of the past year.

When MET first launched in the Philippines, the goal was simple: help Filipino nurses prove their English skills so they could pursue careers abroad, whether in the U.S. or other English-speaking countries. Fast forward a year, and more than 700 nurses have already taken the exam — with an incredible 89% of test takers achieving a satisfactory score for licensure in the U.S.. It’s been inspiring to see so many nurses take this step toward their future, and the 1st Anniversary event gave us all a chance to celebrate that success together.
Partners Who Made It Possible
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of two key partners: 9.0 Niner English Review Center and IPASS Processing. From day one, they’ve been right alongside us, making sure nurses knew about MET, understood the process, and felt confident walking into test day.
“Our partners at 9.0 Niner and IPASS Processing have played a crucial role in MET’s success, helping to raise awareness, providing expert guidance, and supporting nurses throughout their testing journey. We’re so happy to be a stepping stone along the way for nurses moving to the U.S. and other English-speaking countries.”
— Sharon Harvey, CEO, Michigan Language Assessment
Through webinars, workshops, review sessions, and one-on-one support, 9.0 Niner and IPASS have gone above and beyond to make sure nurses had everything they needed — not just to take the test, but to build the English skills they’ll use throughout their careers.
More Than Just a Celebration
The open house had its share of fun moments, such as giveaways and games. However, it was also a chance for nurses and educators to learn more about MET, meet the Michigan Language Assessment Philippines team, and hear directly from nurses who have already passed the test and are well on their way to working abroad.
One of the highlights of the day was hearing stories from nurses who shared their MET experiences — how they prepared, what the test day felt like, and what they’re looking forward to now that they’ve achieved their English certification.Even though Harvey couldn’t join the celebration in person, she sent a special video message to thank everyone who attended and share her excitement for what’s ahead.
What’s Next for MET in the Philippines?
If the first year is anything to go by, there’s a lot to look forward to. The demand for skilled Filipino nurses around the world is only growing, and proving English proficiency will continue to be an important part of qualifying for international roles.
“We are grateful for your support and look forward to helping more Filipino nurses achieve their goals.”
— Isabella Delos Reyes, Business Development Manager, Michigan Language Assessment Philippines
With the continued support of 9.0 Niner, IPASS, healthcare agencies, and healthcare professionals, we know the next years to come will be just as exciting.
