Michigan Language Assessment, a collaboration between the University of Michigan and Cambridge University Press & Assessment, and International House Mexico (IH), a network of language schools in Latin America, are excited to announce a new partnership.
International House will offer cost-effective, secure, accessible, and high-quality language testing with the Michigan English Test (MET) in International House centers, expanding options for Latin American students and professionals who wish to study or work in the United States.
MET is a multilevel test that measures high beginner to advanced levels of English proficiency in a 4-skill digital format. The results of the test are used for a variety of institutions and employers, but primarily test takers use it either as an entrance exam for applying to U.S. colleges and universities or for employment and healthcare licensure in the U.S.
More than 14,500 Mexican students attended U.S.colleges and universities in the 2022-23 academic year, and a further 33,361 Mexican nationals received work visas in the same time period. In addition, nurses born and educated in Mexico continue to bolster the healthcare workforce in the U.S., helping to alleviate the nursing shortage.
“Our mission at Michigan Language Assessment is to help people around the world achieve their education and career goals,” said Sharon Harvey, CEO of Michigan Language Assessment. “We are excited by this expanded partnership with International House, a trusted member of the language education and testing community, and the opportunity to expand access to MET – and the opportunities it can provide – to more people in Latin America.”
With support from and collaboration with Michigan Language Assessment, International House will offer MET preparation courses and exams at 14 centers in Mexico and two in Peru, with plans to expand to other countries in Latin America in 2024 and 2025.
At the beginning of 2024, IH opened preparation courses and test dates at key locations throughout Mexico:
- Aguascalientes
- Cancún
- Cuernavaca
- Guadalajara
- Hermosillo
- León
- Mexico City (2 locations)
- Monterrey
- Puebla
- Querétaro
- Tijuana
- Villahermosa
- Veracruz
Preparation courses and testing have also opened in Peru, with plans to expand to centers in Colombia, Chile, and Argentina in the near future.
